Khopra Danda Trek with Poon Hill – Two Iconic Viewpoints, One Trek

This extended version of the Khopra Danda Trek combines the quiet, scenic Khopra Danda (3,660m) with the classic Poon Hill (3,210m) sunrise viewpoint, giving you the opportunity to experience two of the Annapurna region’s most rewarding viewpoints in a single 9-day trek.

After exploring Khopra Danda, this version takes a different exit through Swanta and Ghorepani, adding an early-morning climb to Poon Hill before descending to Nayapul.

This route lets you experience the peaceful ridge landscapes around Khopra while also enjoying the famous sunrise panorama that has made Poon Hill one of Nepal’s best-known trekking viewpoints.

If you’re deciding between the two, this itinerary is ideal if you want to combine the quieter Khopra Danda experience with the classic Poon Hill sunrise. It adds another major highlight to the trek while keeping the overall difficulty moderate.

Trekkers who prefer a more focused Khopra experience can choose our standard Khopra Danda Trek, while those looking for a more demanding extension can consider our Khayer Lake Trek with Khopra Danda.

Trek Highlights

  • Ridge-top panoramas from Khopra Danda (3,660m) — Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and Machhapuchhre
  • Classic sunrise views from Poon Hill (3,210m), one of Nepal’s most iconic viewpoints
  • Two distinct Annapurna region highlights combined in a single 9-day itinerary
  • Walk through rhododendron and oak forest, including the famous Ghorepani corridor
  • Stay in community-run lodges in Ghandruk, Tadapani, and Swanta villages
  • A complete Annapurna viewpoint experience for trekkers who don’t want to choose between routes

Why Choose Khopra Danda Trek with Poon Hill?

If you want to experience both the quieter mountain landscapes of Khopra Danda and the iconic sunrise from Poon Hill, this 9-day itinerary brings the two highlights together in one trek.

It is a great choice for trekkers who want the peaceful trails and panoramic ridge views of Khopra without missing one of the Annapurna region’s most famous viewpoints.

The route also gives you a varied trekking experience, from Gurung and Magar villages and rhododendron forests to high alpine landscapes and panoramic mountain viewpoints.

If you prefer a more focused Khopra experience, our standard Khopra Danda Trek follows a simpler itinerary. For trekkers looking to extend the adventure to the high-altitude Khayer Lake, our Khayer Lake Trek with Khopra Danda offers a more demanding alternative.

What to Expect?

The first part of the trek follows the scenic Khopra Danda route, taking you through Ghandruk, Tadapani, Dobato, and Upper Chistibung before climbing to Khopra Danda (3,660m). Expect peaceful forest trails, alpine landscapes, and increasingly open mountain views as you approach the ridge.

After exploring Khopra Danda, the trail descends to Swanta Village and then climbs toward Ghorepani, reconnecting with the classic Annapurna trekking route. From Ghorepani, you’ll make an early-morning hike to Poon Hill (3,210m) for sunrise before returning to Ghorepani and continuing the descent to Nayapul.

Overall, this itinerary combines the quieter Khopra Danda experience with the iconic Poon Hill sunrise. The trek remains moderate, but expect several days of steady uphill and downhill walking and a longer overall route than the standard Khopra Danda itinerary.

How Difficult Is the Khopra Danda Trek with Poon Hill?

The Khopra Danda Trek with Poon Hill is a moderate trek suitable for trekkers with a reasonable level of fitness. There are no technical climbing sections, but you should be prepared for 5–7 hours of walking on several days, with regular uphill and downhill sections, stone steps, and uneven forest trails.

The main physical challenge is the sustained climb toward Khopra Danda (3,660m), followed by several days of trekking before reaching Ghorepani and Poon Hill (3,210m). The early-morning climb to Poon Hill adds another uphill section, but it is relatively short compared with the longer trekking days earlier in the route.

You do not need previous high-altitude trekking experience, but being comfortable with long walks on hills and stairs will make the trek much more enjoyable. Regular walking, hiking, or stair training before the trip is recommended. Trekking poles can also be helpful, particularly on the longer descents.
