The Everest Cho La Pass Trek is a 17-day high-altitude journey connecting Everest Base Camp with the stunning Gokyo Valley. Part of Nepal’s famous Three Passes Trek, it offers trekkers a perfect mix of rugged terrain, Sherpa culture, and panoramic views of the world’s tallest mountains.
This trek is ideal for those seeking a less crowded, more adventurous route in the Everest region—blending glaciers, sacred lakes, and traditional mountain villages.
Cho La Pass (5,420m) links the Everest Base Camp route with the Gokyo Valley. Known for its steep, icy terrain and high altitude, it presents both a challenge and a reward.
The ascent involves rocky climbs and glacier crossings. On clear days, views from the top include Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Cho Oyu. After crossing the pass, the descent leads into the quiet Gokyo Valley, home to the pristine Gokyo Lakes.
The trail to Everest Base Camp passes through Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, and Dingboche, offering insight into Sherpa culture. Trekkers walk alongside the Khumbu Glacier, one of the most iconic features of the region.
At Base Camp (5,364m), you’ll stand at the foot of Everest, surrounded by dramatic icefalls and towering peaks. Though the summit isn’t visible, nearby giants like Pumori and Nuptse create a breathtaking setting.
Lukla Flight – Begin your trek with a dramatic flight into the mountains.
Sagarmatha National Park – Trek through diverse terrain with Himalayan flora and fauna.
Tengboche Monastery – Visit the spiritual heart of the Khumbu.
Gokyo Lakes – Explore turquoise alpine lakes sacred to both Buddhists and Hindus.
Kala Patthar & Gokyo Ri – Reach iconic viewpoints for panoramic Himalayan views.
Sherpa Villages – Experience warm hospitality and deep-rooted mountain traditions.
The Everest Cho La Pass Trek is best suited for physically fit trekkers with prior experience at altitude. It’s more demanding than the standard EBC trek due to the high pass crossing and glacier terrain.
You’ll need stamina, proper acclimatization, and a sense of adventure. But the reward is a quieter, richer experience of the Everest region.
